The FFIA exclusively represents the interests of Fiji’s longline tuna fishing fleet. Membership is composed solely of Fiji-flagged longline vessel operators who are actively engaged in the commercial harvesting of tuna within Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in adjacent high seas areas where Fiji is authorised to operate under the WCPFC) management measures and in other EEZs of the WCPO, where they are licensed.
These longline vessels specifically for the three commercially valuable tuna species:
- Bigeye Tuna (Thunnus obesus)
- Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares)
- Albacore Tuna (Thunnus alalunga)
FFIA’s representation is focused on promoting the sustainable, compliant, and profitable operation of longline tuna vessels, aligned with national laws and policies, and regional conservation and management measures.
