Conservation International Engages in Socialization of Value Proposition and Business Model for Fiji’s Tuna Fishing Industry
August 13, 2025The Fiji Fishing Industry Association (FFIA) is proud to announce that its members have successfully participated in a five-day capacity-building workshop on Respectful Workplaces, organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in collaboration with the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).
The training equipped participants with the knowledge and practical tools to foster safe, inclusive, and respectful work environments in the fisheries sector. Core topics included:
– The business case for respectful workplaces and the benefits of gender equality and inclusion.
– Identifying and addressing workplace bullying and sexual harassment.
– Understanding and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), forced labour, and child labour.
– Implementing survivor-centered approaches, fair labour standards, and effective reporting mechanisms.
– Recognizing the impact of hypermasculinity and cultural norms on workplace behaviour.
– Strengthening workplace policies to align with international labour standards and support social responsibility.
The program emphasised that respectful workplaces not only protect employees but also strengthen business performance, reputation, and compliance. Participants developed action plans to apply these principles in their respective organisations, helping position Fiji’s fisheries as a safe and attractive employment sector for all.
This initiative marks another important step in FFIA’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of workplace conduct and human rights across the industry.
