FFIA Members Complete IFC Respectful Workplaces Capacity-Building Program
August 12, 2025The Fiji Fishing Industry Association (FFIA) was pleased to actively participate in the Responsible Seafood Markets Landscape Assessment Workshop, held on 11-12 August 2025 at the Yue Lai Hotel in Suva.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from across Fiji’s seafood sector, including representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries, the Competent Authority of the Ministry of Health, offshore and onshore fishing operators, Conservation International, the Fiji Maritime Academy, and other industry partners.
This important initiative, led by WWF-Fiji under the Blue Prosperity Fiji program, aims to strengthen responsible seafood practices in Fiji. The assessment focuses on key wild-capture and farmed species, market trends, and economic viability, while also addressing critical challenges such as Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and labour risks.
The outcomes of this workshop will help guide future actions to:
– Enhance sustainable fisheries management.
– Strengthen seafood supply chain integrity.
– Support the livelihoods of Fiji’s coastal communities.
FFIA is proud to support this collaborative effort, working towards a healthier ocean, thriving communities, and a sustainable fishing industry for generations to come.
